TROUBLE THE WATER is a not-to-be-missed documentary by Tia Lessin & Carl Deal featuring footage shot by rap artist Kimberly Roberts as she faced the rising waters of Hurricane Katrina. The National Museum of Women in the Arts opens the “Art News” section of its Spring ’09 issue with information about SWAN Day!!! And they augment this important recognition of our efforts with supporting data from a new NEA survey about the gender pay gap in the arts, proving that SWAN Day has, in fact, targeted an important Pay Equity issue.
Now if only the NMWA will tell us why founder Wilhelmina Cole Holladay is wearing a swan pin in all her official photos. Is this just a fabulous coincidence???
PS: The back cover announces the addition of a new piece by sculptor Magdelena Abakanowicz specially created for NMWA. Abakanowicz was one of the participants in DINNER AT JANE’S (a documentary film by Suzanne Lacy about a feminist confab at Hull-House in 1993 coincident with the Centennial Celebrations for Chicago’s Columbian Exposition).
