Kudos to EW’s Adam B. Vary!
“And now with her latest project, THE HURT LOCKER, Bigelow has crafted a bona fide art-house hit—and is helping make 2009 one of the strongest year’s ever for female filmmakers… consider this: If any woman earns a Best Director nomination come February, it will be only the fourth time in history.”
OK, so some of you flamed me last winter for have the hubris to suggest that “my SLUMDOG Brouhaha” was related in any way to the fact that Loveleen Tandan was on stage in February when the SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE team collected its Best Picture Oscar. So you’ll probably flame me again for suggesting that there’s any relationship now. Flame away folks, but this is exactly how it works. Regardless of any arguments for or against nominating Loveleen Tandan herself, I am absolutely certain that “my SLUMDOG Brouhaha” helped focus attention on Oscar Stats, & bringing those stats out of the darkness & into the light is bearing fruit now.
So women, I’m literally begging you: PLEASE see THE HURT LOCKER as soon as it opens in a theatre near you. Build box office revenue, build buzz, and get ready to applaud when Kathryn Bigelow is nominated for a Best Director Oscar in January.
WE can do this; Yes WE Can!!!

I’ll definitely see the movie THE HURT LOCKER. For sure! Have heard many positive things, so more power to it!!
As for Loveleen Tandan, i think the woman has shown restraint and dignity. As only a woman could’ve, given the situation. I love her for it and can’t wait to see HER film as SOLO Director.
I agree, Sonia! I promise to go see Loveleen Tandan’s film THE MINUTE it’s available
Thanks for comment,
Jan

Dear Friends:
I strongly urge you to see “The Hurt Locker” playing right now at few theaters. It has received great reviews (read the one below by Jan Lisa Huttner). Jan says if this movie scores well at the box office, the FEMALE director will be nominated for an Oscar. And if it wins, she will be the first woman director in the 81 year history of the Oscars. It is an independent film and you know how difficult it is for such a film to get advertising dollars to push for good turnout.
Those of us who saw it really appreciated it. We learned what the Iraq War is all about and how different bonding of men are than women. It is a little violent but it is an eye-opener. Please recommend it to your friends.
Let’s use our WOMEN POWER and get this gal nominated…..
