Five films either written &/or directed by women filmmakers opened in Manhattan theatres this week:
- Dark Money
- The Devil’s Doorway
- Gaguin: Voyage to Tahiti
- Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind
- What Will People Say
Of these five, so far I seen four. Two — Dark Money and Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind — are docs. Two — Gauguin and What Will People Say –i are narrative features.
My Top Pick for July 13th (drumroll please!) is What Will People Say, Iram Haq’s incisive drama about a teenager caught between two cultures — the restrictions of Pakistan (from which her parents emigrated) and the freedoms of Norway (the country in which she has been raised).
