Eight films either written &/or directed by women filmmakers opened in Manhattan theatres this week:
- Above and Beyond: NASA’s Journey to Tomorrow
- Bill Coors: The Will to Live
- The Hate U Give
- Living In the Future’s Past
- Moynihan
- Private Life
- Trouble
- Venom
Four of these films — Above and Beyond: NASA’s Journey to Tomorrow, Bill Coors: The Will to Live, Living In the Future’s Past, & Moynihan — are docs. And four — The Hate U Give, Private Life, Trouble & Venom – are narrative features.
Of these eight, so far I have only seen two (due to a big family weeding this weekend), and given that I like both films very much, this is a tough choice.
But by my own rules, I must pick, so my Top Pick for October 5th is (drumroll please!) Moynihan, a superlative and very timely peek into the realities of attempts at Progressive government in the USA.
